Celebrating Three Years of Transformative Impact with The Lister Alliance
It’s with real pride that I reflect on the incredible journey of The Lister Alliance over the past three years. What began as a visionary commitment by Cisco, has grown into a thriving community dedicated to promoting digital transformation across the NHS. I am delighted with the tangible impact we've made, and the robust groundwork laid for a smarter future for the NHS.
A User-Centric Approach Driving Real Change
I think the secret to the Lister success lies in our multifaceted, user-centric approach and the people we have engaged with. We champion co-design and co-development with end-users, aligning our efforts with design thinking principles. This ensures every solution is practical, effective, and truly fit for purpose. Crucially, we integrate training, skills development, and change management into our work, guaranteeing that technology is meaningfully adopted into operational practice and workflows.
Our Living Labs are demonstrating our commitment to generating social value, operational efficiency and an unwavering focus on staff and patient safety, outcomes and wellbeing:
Hospital Energy Savings: By retrofitting smart sensor technology and universal power-over-ethernet lighting into legacy hospital estates, we've achieved a substantial reduction in energy consumption. This isn't just about cost savings; it's about creating a more sustainable future and, hopefully, improving staff wellbeing.
Improved Patient Outcomes and Safety: We've empowered frontline staff in a national tertiary service with a combinatorial set of technologies, providing them with the essential tools to support patient recovery in long-term care facilities. Our user-centric development and data-driven insights are now informing future digital transformation efforts for the New Hospital Programme.
Community-Based Prevention and Anticipatory Care: In a coastal community, we've supported innovative solutions to combat social isolation and identify early indicators of deterioration for frail individuals living independently. While still in early deployment, anecdotal feedback from residents has been overwhelmingly positive.
Pioneering Sustainable Primary Care: We’re currently exploring the creation of a net-zero primary care service in a rural GP practice. This ambitious project aims to drastically reduce carbon emissions and operating costs by utilising green energy technologies and smart building sensors.
Building a Foundation for Future Innovation
Our living lab methodology provides insights and learnings that can help the NHS procure better solutions and shift towards value-based commissioning. This transition inherently supports more sustainable technologies and deeper co-design with users and communities. Collectively, we provide a safe environment to fail fast and learn faster. A cornerstone of our innovation methodology is our engagement with local academic institutions who provide robust evaluation, cultivate new concepts and help with the diffusion of innovation.
As we look forward to the next three years, I am incredibly proud of what we've achieved together. The Lister Alliance is testament to the power of people and purpose, working together to build a better healthcare system.
